Construction of the A46
When the A46 was built in,
the suspension railway scaffolding had to be raised in Sonnborn to two meters. Here a
bridge above the highway was built. The A46 leads from Wuppertal the north to Dusseldorf and
connects these both towns. In Wuppertal the north the A1 crosses the A46 which
leads from Cologne to Hamburg. Thus Wuppertal is optimally connected with the big towns of Cologne,
Dortmund, Dusseldorf and Hamburg. The Sonnborner cross was
the biggest interchange in Europe at this time. At that time the whole pride was the
huge lighting system, also at night the cross was illuminated brightly like
with daylight. This should avoid accidents. Nowadays, however,
the energy savings effect stands in the foreground. The biggest part of the lamps is switched off,
particularly as the people are close today with big traffic interchanges. If
one has luck and goes above the highway, one sees like a
suspension railway about that floats.
