The traffic problem in Wuppertal

The towns Barmen and field Elber had the problem which was only little place for streets in the narrow valley of the Wupper. There was only one single street which led from Barmen through field Elber and Vohwinkel to Dusseldorf to the harbour. Then the products from Barmen and field Elber were worldwide exported by the harbour in Dusseldorf by ship.
However, this street was always blocked. It drove a horse road of Vohwinkel to Barmen, and it needed for this distance sometimes more than three hours. On the street carts with textiles, horse roads and pedestrian wildly romped about in a mess. Since the workers of the factories did not live directly next door, but still had to drive a good piece or run. There was no order on the streets in the valley of the Wupper.
